Welcome to our Padwork Excellence course. You will find this course packed with practical information you can take into your gym and use to help make your boxers better. And that should be the point of padwork – making boxers better at boxing, not better at padwork.
These days, everyone is a touch of a button away from boxing padwork videos on social media. A technical video here, a tactical video there. And when you watch it all, there is some excellent advice and unfortunately, some really poor, misleading content too. The big gap we hope to help with here is a deeper understanding of the dynamics of padwork. What actually are effective pads and where can we have a greater impact and transfer to competition.
One issue stems from the fact many coaches assume that conventional padwork has high levels of skill transfer into competition. Whilst there are multiple variables here, we believe it just isn’t true. In fact, we believe…
‘Traditional and generic padwork has a lower level of skill transfer into competition.’
Whilst this is a sweeping comment, and it doesn’t take into account all of the nuances and benefits which padwork can have, we believe that the traditional approach to padwork doesn’t do what it says on the tin. So,
What can you expect from this course?
- A deeper understanding of the science which governs padwork.
- To be able to challenge your current padwork practice in your gym.
- Video and written resources to help you achieve your learning.
- Practical knowledge that will help you support your boxers’ skill development.
This course is accessible to everyone, but for those with a more academic interest, we’ve built this course with the following in mind:
- Ecological dynamics
- Perception/action coupling
- Constraints based approach
Through this, we hope to show the learning dynamics involved in padwork whilst suggesting methods to enhance skill transfer to competition. Essentially, how can we deliver better padwork using proven methods for skill acquisition and make our boxers better, not at padwork, but in competition.
We hope this course helps you find answers to the question all coaches should always ask, ‘How can we do this better?’
Meanwhile here is a glossary of terms you will find in the course which you can always refer back to if you need.
